Mountain Bike World Cup Start
The cross-country season of the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano opened in Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic. Last year, Nove Mesto hosted the UCI World Championships, followed by Albstadt one week later.
In Nove Mesto, WINFORCE athlete Sabine Spitz moved into second behind the current World Champion Annika Langvad. Together with Adelheid Morath (6th), Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå (14th) and Jolanda Neff (18th) there were 4 "silver bullets" among the Top 20.
The main surprise in the men’s Elite race was 2nd placed David Valero (MMR Factory Racing Team) who challenged the World and Olympic champion Nino Schurter celebrating his best World Cup result ever. Defending UCI World Cup overall winner Julien Absalon (BMC Mountainbike Racing Team) took third.
The young guns Titouan Carod (BMC) and Pablo Rodríguez (MMR) finished 7th and 11th. With the Swiss BMC riders Reto Inderand and Lukas Flückiger even 6 WINFORCE athletes classified in the Top 20! The BMC MTB Racing Team is also the old and new World Cup leading team, followed by the MMR Factory Racing Team!
Both would defend their position at Round 2 of the 5th UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Albstadt, Germany…
The Elite Women's race saw multiple lead changes. Yana Belomoina, Maja Wloszczowska (Kross Racing) and her teammate Jolanda Neff battled for the top spot, with Belomoina passing Wloszczowska in the final lap to take her first Elite World Cup win, and move into the overall leader's jersey. Wloszczowska was second and Swiss rocket Neff third. That means another podium and 4 Top Ten results considering Sabine Spitz (7th), Adelheid Morath (8th) and Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå (9th).
On the men’s side it was again David Rodríguez (4th) and Julien Absalon (7th) setting the silver highlight. Pablo Rodríguez (11th), Martin Fanger (18th) Titouan Carod (19th) completed the excellent World Cup start.
